You Can Stay in a Spooky Castle-Like Airbnb in Wisconsin

Try a spooky stay at this castle-like Steampunk Manor bed and breakfast in Spring Green, Wisconsin.

Spooky season is upon us, and what better way to throw yourself into the festivities than a sleepover at an eerie Airbnb? In a remote corner of the Badger State, in Spring Green, Steampunk Manor is a castle-like bed and breakfast that is straight out of a scary movie. Grab your favorite Mary Shelley read and get ready to explore this spooky overnight castle in Wisconsin.

While not technically a castle, Steampunk Manor exudes a castle-like vibe with its large turret room on the second floor. From the outside, this 1904 Queen Anne Victorian-style home looks like Rapunzel should be letting down her hair. The bed and breakfast offers six individual rooms for rent and includes a three-course breakfast. According to reviews, the breakfast typically includes items such as crab cakes, a cheesy brunch casserole, and a cinnamon French toast plate. If you’re visiting in October, you might just get to enjoy your meal under the seasonal “Dead and Breakfast: Come Stay with Us Forever” sign.

You’ll notice that each of the guest rooms has its own unique theme. If you’re staying around Halloween, you’ll be treated to the over-the-top decorations that adorn the property. A particularly creepy yet cool year-round feature of the bed and breakfast is the 120-year-old pump organ, and guests are welcome to test their gothic music chops.

But is it spooky? Airbnb has said that Steampunk Manro’s Frank Lloyd Wright room is one of the spookiest in the country. The famous architect lived in Spring Green, Wisconsin, for part of his life. Elements of his unique design style are incorporated into this room, adding a touch of unease to the already Halloween-like property. There’s even a fish tank! The oddness of the room (and the entire castle-like home, for that matter), coupled with the quietness of the town, makes the overall vibe of this Airbnb quite different from that of your typical short-term rental stay.

Aside from the spooky charm of Steampunk Manor, guests will enjoy a few shared perks. The hosts offer a community fridge with complimentary ice and cold bottled water. Additionally, visitors have access to a formal living room, dining room, and a parlor that is filled with antiques and musical instruments. Lastly, guests are welcome to explore a downstairs lounge that offers a fireplace, TV, and couch. Board games, cards, and puzzles are also available for folks to set up camp and play together.

When you're not enjoying the chilling comforts of this steampunk stay, there is a lot to get out and explore in the Spring Green area. A popular option is taking a tour of Taliesin. Taliesin is the home and studio of architect Frank Lloyd Wright himself. Alternatively, catch a show at the American Playhouse Theatre or enjoy a walk along the trails at Tower Hill State Park. The quirky House on the Rock is just a short 15-minute drive away as well.

Whether you love to be a little creeped out or just want to try something new this fall, a stay in one of Steampunk Manor’s specialty rooms is sure to please. Feeling inspired? Try planning your own Wisconsin trip using Only In Your State’s itinerary planner.
