You Can Sleep and Spend All Day in a Hot Tub at This Airbnb in Wisconsin

Escape to the serenity of country life at this rural Airbnb in Wisconsin at a country cottage with a hot tub and a creek.

Why is it so alluring to stay in somebody else’s carefully curated home? Airbnbs are the au courant way to stay right now, and while I was slow to adapt to this concept, I’m now obsessed. Each time I book a home and step over the threshold, it’s like checking into a new life for the weekend, or at least a familiar scene from my favorite romcom movies.  Perhaps that’s why I’m a sucker for a cottage or a country stay, which leads me to Trimbelle Cottage, an Airbnb in Wisconsin.

I discovered this cozy blue gem tucked into a wooded lot in Wisconsin, dangling between the Driftless Area and the Twin Cities. It’s everything I dream of when I think of the sweet, rural settings in a Hallmark movie: flourishing prairie views, a big red barn, and the perfect, winding country road that leads you home.

From the moment I stepped out of the car, the simpler things engulfed my senses: a frog singing from the creek behind me, bees humming through the gardens, and the soft whirl of wild grasses in the summer breeze. I immediately started imagining what it’d be like to see the leaves turn amber and gold, to watch the creek glaze over after the first frost, and to patiently wait for the crocus to pop up their purple heads come spring.

As my feet creaked across the porch boards and spilled into the country kitchen, it begged for freshly brewed coffee and bread rising in the oven. So I let it pull me in, tinkering through the cupboards, pretending they were my own. As I poured two steaming cups, one for me and one for my hubby, the holy grail of all Airbnbs caught my eye, flickering from the back deck beneath the late afternoon sun: a hot tub, sitting beneath a cloak of trees, little swirls of heat waving their fingers at me.

Duly noting a beckoning brick fireplace and the arm of a record player waiting to be engaged, we drifted back outdoors to the main attraction of this Airbnb in Wisconsin. Tranquility, comfort, and luxury are all achieved by 102-degree water and a backdrop fit for main character moments. And there we drifted, hour after hour, rising only when we could no longer resist the cozy country beds draped in quilts and feather pillows.

With the rising sun, I wandered the house, clicking on bronze lamps, flipping through shelves stuffed with books, admiring little tokens of a curated life: a wood-carved duck, drop-chord lamps, and dainty vintage dishes. But then it happened again, the lure of the bubbling tub on the back deck. Like a moth to a candle, I sank back in, watching the house and the world wake up under the slow, effortless rhythm of a home on a quiet, country road. My husband padded out to meet me with a fresh round of steaming joe, and we agreed—the crowning feature of any Airbnb—will always be a hot tub. But the one at Trimbelle Cottage in rural Ellsworth, Wisconsin, will be very, very hard to beat.
