Skip Europe This Summer: This Airbnb in West Virginia Is Just as Enchanting

Skip the International flight and instead book a few nights at this stunning Scandinavian-inspired cabin in Davis, West Virginia.

I've always been drawn to Scandinavia; the minimalist design, nature-focused living, and culture that seems to embrace all things cozy won me over immediately the first time I traveled to Iceland. And while there are few substitutes for International travel, you'll be delighted to hear that West Virginia boasts its own version of Scandinavian travel. Enter the Nordic Cabin in Davis. This four-bedroom, two-bathroom cabin is minutes from some of the state's best scenery—think: Dolly Sods Widerness and Canaan Valley—yet it's secluded enough to feel worlds away from it all. Or, at least as though you've traveled across the Atlantic Ocean.

Tucked away in the community of Old Timerline, this sleek, architect-designed cabin is completely surrounded by trees. Step inside and you'll find yourself surrounded by artful and intentional design. Details that immediately caught my eye include the natural wood-clad walls, dramatic yet elegant light features, potbelly stove, and towering ceilings. The first floor of the home has an open-concept design, lending itself perfectly for gathering as a group around the dining table. The fully-stocked kitchen flows seamlessly into the living room, making this an ideal space for entertaining a small group (no more than 10 total) or simply enjoying the company of your fellow travelers.

The main bedroom is also downstairs, boasting views of the surrounding woods and a private bathroom with a shower. Venture upstairs and you'll find the remaining three bedrooms and a second full bathroom with a soaking tub. Another thing I noticed about this cabin: it's perfect for all seasons. In the winter, there's a mudroom for kicking off your ski boots before warming up by the wood-burning stove. And in summer, you can spend a few hours out on the covered porch or enjoying fresh air in the backyard. Speaking of the yard, some family-friendly activities like a slack line, a basketball hoop, and lawn games are available to use. A small private lake with two adult-sized kayaks can be found a 15-minute walk from the cabin.

If you're a fan of hiking, don't miss the chance to explore the Dolly Sods Wilderness, which is a quick drive from the home. Some of the area's most popular trails include the Red Creek Trail to Lion's Head Rocks and the Rohrbaugh Trail.

After a day filled with adventure, return to your cabin and enjoy some music on the vintage record player with your beverage of choice. Chances are, you'll consider yourself among the many, many delighted travelers who have stayed here. As one traveler shares, "We have stayed here about a half a dozen times over the years. Josh is simply the perfect host, and the cabin is very private, absolutely gorgeous, always spotless, with awesome and breathtaking surroundings. Just extraordinary...Six stars!"
