This School In Washington Is Now A Hotel And You’ll Want To Visit

Located about 20 minutes northeast of Seattle, the city of Bothell is a quiet neighbor to Woodinville’s wine scene. Aside from a few small attractions, this mid-sized city has mainly been seen as a place to drive through on the way to some of the area’s more scenic spots. But Bothell definitely has something worth stopping for now and, believe it or not, it used to be a school.

If you’ve spent any time in the Portland area, you’re probably familiar with the McMenamins chain. Their goal is to bring the past to the present by buying old buildings and turning them into hotels, restaurants or pubs. The team researches each property extensively to try and preserve its history and culture as best they can.

The Anderson School was a recent McMenamins venture. Built in 1931 as Bothell Junior High and later renamed Anderson School after the first principal, the art-deco style building is now a destination hotel.

The classrooms have been converted into hotel rooms, each with a unique name that gives a nod to its history. The Chris Walla room is named after Bothell native and Death Cab for Cutie founder Chris Walla, while the Terri Malinowski room is named after an Anderson School English teacher in the 80s.

You don’t have to stay at Anderson School to take advantage of its many amenities. There are a total of six restaurants and bars, including one called the Principal’s Office. The indoor heated pool is open daily, and the Thorndike Room is a community space that’s free to Bothell residents.

Anderson School also has a movie theater that plays current flicks, and the staff will deliver burgers and beer to guests in their seats.
