This Secluded Cabin Is the Perfect Home Base for Virginia’s Best Hiking Trails
Just a few miles from Shenandoah National Park, this breathtaking cabin is the perfect home base for all of your hiking adventures.
My favorite vacations always include a little hiking, whether it's a lengthy day hike or a quick mountain loop. That's why I've got my eye on this stunning mountain cabin that's a mere minutes from the Swift Run Gap Entrance Station of Shenandoah National Park. The cabin itself is stunning, with a sleek, spacious design, but its access to Virginia's best hiking trails is what really sets this place apart. So pack up your bags—and your comfiest hiking boots—and get ready for a getaway in the mountains.
First, let's take a look at the numbers. The spacious cabin can comfortably accommodate up to eight guests, with four bedrooms, seven beds, and two-and-a-half baths. It sits on a lovely six-acre property and is just a few minutes from the Swift Run Gap entrance to Shenandoah National Park. Walking into this cabin, you'll immediately notice its classic A-frame interior with a lofty ceiling and tons of natural light.
I love how this place has been decorated; it's got that classic cabin feel without being overly crowded or over the top. The vintage skis, paddles, and posters used as decor are the perfect nod to the region's great outdoors. The owners have lovingly collected local pieces from their travels in both Virginia and Europe, giving the home a delightfully international feel.
And while the space is big, it's designed in such a way that there are plenty of cozy nooks and dining areas to enjoy good food and company. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you'll need, like cast-iron pans and gourmet knives.
There's an additional dining space outside on the screened-in porch, and it's the perfect spot to enjoy a cup of coffee while listening to the birds and the peaceful sounds of Hawksbill Creek. The bedrooms are perfect for unwinding after a long day of mountain excursions. Two of the bedrooms are located in the main cabin, plus there's an additional guest space in the Snoring Bear Suite.
One of the coolest things about the property is that it's bordered on two sides by Shenandoah National Park. Getting there is just a quick drive away. After paying the entrance fee at Swift Run Gap, you'll take Skyline Drive to some of the park's best hiking trails. One nearby option is South River Falls Trail and South River Fire Road Loop, a moderate 3.2-mile circuit trail with an absolutely breathtaking waterfall.
Other popular area hikes include Hightop Peak Trail and the Saddleback Mountain Loop. If you're an avid hiker, consider staying at the cabin for at least a few nights so you can enjoy as many hikes as your schedule allows!
