From Hitting the Slopes to Enjoying a Soak: How to Enjoy a Perfect Weekend in This Winter Vermont Town
Are you searching for a fun winter vacation? The slopes, soaks, and sights of Montgomery, Vermont, make it the perfect place to get away this season.
It is no secret Vermont has some of the best skiing in the Northeast. Even when other areas of the region struggle to produce enough snow to keep their resorts open, the Green Mountain State always has fresh powder blanketing the ground during the winter. With 25 fantastic ski areas scattered throughout Vermont, the question is not “Should I ski?” but rather, “Where should I ski?” While each region of the state offers a different mountain experience, one area is perfect for both a fabulous day of skiing and an entire winter weekend getaway in Vermont. A visit to the Northeast Kingdom (NEK) town of Montgomery is like stepping into an epic winter wonderland.
Let me first tell you about the NEK’s slopes. You will find several wonderful ski areas in the region, the biggest being Jay Peak Resort. The resort has over 385 acres of skiing with 81 trails, chutes, and glides to explore. There are trails for everyone, from beginner to expert.
The resort also features great restaurants and entertainment areas. For indoor fun, check out the gigantic Pump House Indoor Waterpark.
After a full day of outdoor adventures on the mountain, you will need to find a place to warm up and rest your weary muscles. I suggest heading over to the town of Montgomery (just seven minutes away) for a stay at the Adobe Cottage rental.
This special Airbnb is one of five cottages at the cozy Crofter's Green rental property. Each micro-cottage has a different theme and the Adobe’s Southwestern design, decor, and artwork uniquely contrast with the snowy wooded backdrop of the northern Vermont landscape.
The cottage has room for up to four guests and features a bedroom loft area with a queen-sized bed and a downstairs queen-sized sleeper sofa. There are comfy spots for curling up with a book or watching a movie. Plus, the kitchen has everything you need to whip up a great meal.
Venture out on the Crofter's Green property (there are 25 acres to explore) and you will find a brand-new hot tub, kept at a balmy 104 degrees. There is also a firepit area, a warm and cozy place to gather with friends.
Be sure to take some time to explore Montgomery. This idyllic Vermont town is beautiful year-round. If, like me, you love covered bridges, you are in for a treat. With six covered bridges in town and an additional bridge on the outskirts, Montgomery is considered the Covered Bridge Capital of Vermont.
The town also features delicious restaurants, cute little shops, and an unusual spa called Vermont Salt Cave Spa & Halotherapy Center, which is built around a man-made salt cave. If you are looking for a few hours of rejuvenation, this is the place to visit.
Are you ready to come to the NEK for a weekend of skiing and relaxation? A stay at the Adobe Cottage and the other Crofter's Green cottages can be booked through Airbnb.
