I love camping and we have some of the best campgrounds in Tennessee, so it's easy to fall in love with this form of outdoor recreation. If you agree, then you are likely on the lookout for yet another great camping spot in the Volunteer State -- and let me tell you, I believe I have stumbled upon the best campground in Chapel Hill, Tennessee. Allow me to introduce you to Henry Horton State Park.
Henry Horton State Park was established in 1961 and is located about an hour south of Nashville. This beautiful middle Tennessee park is often viewed as the go-to destination for family vacations and while you are camping, there is so much to do that you don’t need to go anywhere else.
There are all kinds of camping options when you stay at Henry Horton State Park. The versatility makes this one of the most accessible parks in the state, giving guests the chance to "rough it" or live it up in luxury.
If you prefer to bring a tent, there are spots for that as well as backpacking sites where you can pack in and out. There are also plenty of RV spots with full hookups if you have your own camper to bring along.
There really is no reason to leave the park once you arrive because everything you need is in one place.
If you don’t have regular camping equipment yet, start with the cabin rentals. If you want to step it up a notch and live in total luxury, the lodge is another great stay option -- and when you get hungry, the restaurant is open and waiting for you.
Inside you might forget altogether that you are in a state park filled with natural beauty.
The dining area looks more like something taken right from the busy streets of Nashville with great service and a full menu. If you still crave the outdoors, sit in the open-air patio so you can get the most out of the beautiful scenery while you stay in the park.
Speaking of enjoying the great outdoors, one of my other favorite activities is hiking.
At this state park, you will not be left wanting because there are miles of trails to hike. Whenever I am looking for new trails I open up my AllTrails app and explore the various hikes in the park, but one I would recommend is the Hickory Ridge Inner Loop and witness the otherworldly rock formations.
This is a beautiful state park and filled with plenty of activities to keep you busy for a full family vacation.
If you are looking to cool off on a warm day then take a dip in the pool. Test your skills at the shooting range, challenge your best score on the golfing green, or even toss some frisbees on the disc golf course. When it comes to an "all in one" getaway in Tennessee, this is one park you won’t want to miss.
Do you agree with me that this the best campground in Chapel Hill, Tennessee? If you haven’t been, give it a shot and plan a trip to take advantage of all of the activities found in Henry Horton State Park.
