Blackville is a small town with less than 2,000 people living there as of data from the 2020 census. But it’s a charming little town with a library that looks like it’s from a book lover’s dream, a delicious Amish-Mennonite buffet restaurant, and an incredible fountain of youth/healing spring that people drive hundreds of miles to drink from. And we’ve found a cute cottage in Blackville, South Carolina that’s the perfect place to stay for a getaway when you’re ready to see this neat corner of the state.
Tucked away on Jones Bridge Road and surrounded by 25 acres of picturesque farmland, Wisteria Cottage is a hidden gem bed and breakfast getaway.
For about 2-3 weeks in the early spring season, this is the glorious sight at the cottage. For the rest of the year, the lush green foliage replaces all of the wisteria blooms, as seen in the prior photo.
This cottage is very rustic, having been carefully moved from the Johnson farm on Hwy 78 West to this property. It had been home to those who helped the Johnsons tend their farm back in the 1940s, and it has been restored to its original look.
A cozy, comfortable space, it's perfect for a relaxing weekend getaway.
Treats and drinks in the kitchen are yours to enjoy after arriving at the cottage.
The kitchen is equipped with a small stove, refrigerator, microwave, toaster, and coffee pot. A typical Mennonite breakfast will be brought to the cottage kitchen or deck at an agreed upon time and includes Henny Penny's fresh low-cholesterol eggs, bacon or sausage, fried potatoes and hot cakes, and French toast or homemade toast with berry syrup or homemade jam. There will also be some type of baked treat along with fresh seasonal fruit or juice.
In the bathroom, a claw foot tub awaits your use and feels like a reminder of days spent at Grandma's house or as though you may have traveled way back in time to another era!
The cottage sleeps four with one queen-size bed and one double bed. A crib is available upon request.
In the evenings, enjoy some peaceful time on the porch. There's no internet service at the cottage, so you can truly unplug and unwind during your stay!
The owner of the cottage, Lill, has a herb garden where you can have a tea party if there's a special occasion you'd like to celebrate in this way. And you can learn to make a tussie mussie from herbs picked straight from the garden while you're here!
A customized Sweetheart Basket or Welcome Basket to surprise your loved one with upon arrival can be arranged as well. Request details and pricing when you make your reservation.
