Ride on an Elf-Driven Christmas Sleigh, Then Stay in a Christmas-Themed Hotel Room for a Holly Jolly South Carolina Adventure

Charleston, South Carolina offers festive holiday activities including historic carriage rides and special hotel amenities.

Christmas in South Carolina is indeed the most wonderful time of the year, and for many reasons. From the cheery lights and decor all around to the generous giving spirit that abounds, and the calendar full of fun activities to choose from, it’s a time to practice making the most of the moment, savoring the sweetness of life, and creating new memories. There are many holiday adventures in South Carolina just waiting for you to enjoy throughout the state, and they are sure to leave you full of joyful holiday spirit!

Of all the different areas in South Carolina offering festive activities during the season, one of the best places to find something fun to do is, of course, Charleston, which has been consistently ranked by Travel + Leisure readers as America’s Best City for over 10 consecutive years. A beautiful sight all year long, holiday decor just makes the city even more special.

In fact, coming to Charleston may be one of the best Christmas vacations in South Carolina.

Old South Carriage Company is one of several companies in Charleston that offer historic horse-drawn carriage tours. During the holiday season, it offers a holiday “sleigh” ride for a fun, 30-minute caroling ride through the city in a carriage decorated for the season and driven by one of Santa’s elves. This seasonal event is perfect for families or a unique date night.

After the ride, you can stop by Santa’s workshop for cookies and cocoa …

… and a photo with Santa!

Spending a weekend in Charleston during the holidays is a getaway you won't forget. After the ride, head over to the French Quarter Inn for a comfy stay in the Sleigh Bell Suite, a Christmas-themed suite that's the perfect way to celebrate the season.

The suite is fully decked out with holiday decor, including garland, mistletoe, and even freshly baked cookies with milk! Guests will be greeted by the sounds of Charleston native Darius Rucker's Home for the Holidays album, which just adds to the magic of this charming hotel.

Other holiday amenities at the hotel include bourbon-spiced eggnog, classic holiday movie screenings, a special reading of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas from Santa on Christmas Eve, and the melodies of Christmas carolers on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. See for yourself why this is one of the best places to visit in South Carolina for the holidays.

Before you leave town, stop by Peninsula Grill for a slice of its world-famous coconut cake, called by celebrity chef Bobby Flay his “all-time favorite dessert,” and Charleston Christmas Collectibles for a special souvenir. What could be better than an ornament of the iconic Rainbow Row or a horse and carriage to help remember this holiday season in the city of Charleston?

For more information, including rates and availability for a carriage ride and hotel stay, visit the Old South Carriage Company website and the French Quarter Inn website. Hurry, though, as there is limited availability for sleigh rides, and some days may sell out before the end of the season.
