5 Surprising Airbnbs Hiding in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania

Last spring, my family and I embarked on an epic road trip through south-central Pennsylvania. We spent a delicious couple of days in Hershey and then set out to experience a bit of history in Gettysburg. While I definitely found the monuments at the National Military Park and the exhibits at the historic center to be fascinating, I also fell completely in love with the charm of this historic small town. There were so many wonderful shops, restaurants, and museums to visit that I could have easily spent several more days happily exploring the area. The town of Gettysburg is also filled with something else - wonderful Airbnbs. My family is already planning a return trip back to town, and I’ve already put these five local rentals on my Gettysburg Airbnb wishlist.

1. The Historic Rowe House, Gettysburg

The Historic Rowe House is the perfect rental for visitors who wish to stay in the heart of Gettysburg. The beautiful brick home dates back to 1819 and is located within Gettysburg’s historic downtown district, close to shops, restaurants, and attractions. I find it completely fascinating that the building (once owned by the Rowe family), has direct ties to the historical battle. The home is now a gorgeous three-bedroom Airbnb that sleeps up to five guests. While it contains modern amenities, the owners have done a fantastic job maintaining its historical charm.

2. Historic Civil War Farm House, Gettysburg

The Historic Civil War Farm House, located about four miles from downtown on the David Stewart Farm, also offers guests a historical experience. The property’s barn and farmhouse once served as a field hospital for injured Civil War soldiers. Rumor has it that ghosts may haunt the ancient property. Visitors who don’t mind a bit of possible paranormal activity and some friendly resident pets (the owner has several cats and a dog) will find this highly-rated Airbnb to be full of charm. Guests have their own private area with two bedrooms and a bathroom and additional access to several lovely shared spaces. 

3. Blue Coat Cottage, Gettysburg

Gettysburg’s Blue Coat Cottage may be over a century old, but this special home projects an incredibly cozy vibe. The Airbnb is located on the banks of a scenic creek and has a beautiful backyard. There is ample space to comfortably sleep six guests in three bedrooms, making it an ideal spot for families or groups of friends seeking to enjoy a peaceful and quiet stay.

4. Thaddeus Stevens' Gettysburg Log Home, Gettysburg

Lovers of historic homes will definitely enjoy a stay at the Thaddeus Stevens' Gettysburg Log Home. The authentic log home was built in 1790 and was home to Thaddeus Stevens, a well-known civil rights advocate and abolitionist. The rental has three bedrooms and sleeps up to six guests. There is also a modern kitchen and one-and-a-half bathrooms. This special property is only a few minutes walk from the downtown area.

5. The Silo House, Biglerville

Although The Silo House is not located in downtown Gettysburg, this local rental absolutely deserves a mention. This adorable Airbnb, situated on a working farm in the nearby town of Biglerville, has been completely refurbished with repurposed materials. The two-bedroom/two-bath farmhouse offers guests a tranquil retreat amongst beautiful fields of lavender. This unique rental is about a 15-minute drive from the historic landmarks and museums.
