Cross a Stone Bridge Into Your Private Suite at This Historic Pennsylvania Airbnb
Enjoy a peaceful retreat at this one-bedroom historic Airbnb in Port Allegany, Pennsylvania, that's carved into the side of a mountain.
As a young traveler, I viewed hotels as little more than a place to drop my bags and to sleep while I spent every free moment exploring. That all changed with the emergence of Airbnbs. Now it’s about more than just finding a place to stay; it’s about embracing a unique adventure, whether it’s staying in a former train car or a treehouse. For a truly one-of-a-kind experience, book a stay at this historic Airbnb in Port Allegany, Pennsylvania.
Before you stroll over the stone bridge, past a tiny waterfall that drops into a pool, and into your home away from home, take a moment to soak up the beauty of Lynn Hall. On the National Register of Historic Places, the home was designed and built by local Walter J. Hall in the 1930s. A prime example of early organic modern architecture, part of what makes this property so unique is it is carved into the Allegheny Mountains. Hall built the historic home using a variety of materials, including stone from the area, railroad tracks that had been recycled, and lumber that had been leftover when building barns.
Today, guests can stay in Lynn Hall, which includes Walter Hall’s former office. The one-bedroom, one-bath suite sleeps a maximum of two guests. The cozy space promises beautiful mountain views and nearly four dozen amenities, including an HDTV with streaming, a gas fireplace, and a kitchenette with a mini fridge, a coffeemaker, dishes, and a table. When you’re not out exploring, spend some time in the shared backyard, where you can relax in a hammock, or enjoy takeout in the outdoor dining area.
If you’ve ever been to Fallingwater in Western Pennsylvania, you might notice some similarities with Lynn Hall. Famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright designed the home over a waterfall, and Walter J. Hall was hired to build the landmark. Consider booking a tour of Lynn Hall during your stay. Tours generally last between 90 minutes and two hours, include discussions of both Lynn Hall and Fallingwater, and culminate with refreshments.
