Experience a Magical Overnight Stay in a North Carolina Lighthouse

This unique lighthouse Airbnb in Currituck, North Carolina accommodates three guests and has a kitchenette, full bathroom, wrap around balcony with amazing views, and heat and air conditioning.

Lighthouses are an enchanting part of North Carolina's history. For hundreds of years, they've helped guide sailors safely to shore. They symbolize safety and hope. We can still visit several of the Tar Heel State's beautiful lighthouses. But did you know it's also possible to stay overnight in a lighthouse?

We've found a unique and beautiful lighthouse-themed Airbnb in Currituck, North Carolina, and it's the perfect place to stay for a one-of-a-kind adventure.

The Lighthouse House is a one-bedroom, one-bathroom tower with all the beautiful characteristics of a lighthouse and the comforts of a restful accommodation. Guests can enjoy central heat, air conditioning, hot water, a TV, and a record player. The lighthouse's front door opens to a first-floor bedroom and sitting area. The bedroom boasts a lush queen bed for peaceful sleep and a television, perfect for a late-night movie or early-morning news broadcast.

A spiral staircase takes guests to the second level, where there is a kitchenette and a full bathroom. The kitchenette has wooden cabinetry, a microwave, a coffee maker, a toaster oven, and a small refrigerator. The bathroom has a walk-in shower, toilet, and vanity. A ladder on the second floor leads to a snug sleeping area with a twin-sized mattress.

Climbing further up the staircase, guests arrive at the lighthouse's crown jewel—a third-floor dining area with access to a wrap-around balcony. From this viewpoint, guests can see the fields of Currituck County and the beautiful waters of Coinjuck Bay and Currituck Sound. I can imagine having a romantic dinner there with a spectacular view. It would also be the perfect place to enjoy a cup of coffee or play a board game. For more details and to check availability, visit The Lighthouse House's Airbnb listing.

But there's stuff to do nearby, too! Currituck, North Carolina, is full of stunning natural beauty. Currituck Banks Reserve is a 965-acre nature preserve with beaches, marshes, sand dunes, and forests. The preserve is a fantastic place to hike and birdwatch. The Currituck Beach Lighthouse is also a wonderful place to visit; climbing the 220 stairs to its top provides impressive water views. It's also the only unpainted brick lighthouse in the state and has a museum and gift shop. Unfortunately, this lighthouse is amongst the lighthouses that are currently closed for a renovation project. But, be on the lookout to see when it opens up again!

Nearby, on Currituck Island, visitors can glimpse the Outer Banks' wild horses. A herd of Spanish Mustangs, thought to be the descendants of horses from Spanish expeditions, has roamed the island for 400 years. Taking a tour to view these horses is on my bucket list!
