The Beekman Arms Inn in Rhinebeck is a historic and haunted hotel that offers a unique and spooky stay.
The Beekman Arms Inn is very old, and like many very old buildings, it is also very haunted. This inn in Rhinebeck has been in business since 1766 when it was added on to the tavern that has been in operation since 1704. Over the past three centuries, many people have stayed at the Beekman Arms Inn, and you can too - if you dare.
Visiting this colonial inn is like stepping back in time. Both inside and out, it still looks much like it did when it first opened so long ago.
The rooms here are pleasant and they are all different. They, too, are decorated in colonial fashion. Some of the rooms look more haunted than others.
Many famous people have stayed at the Beekman Arms Inn over the years including George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, Benedict Arnold and Philip Schuyler during the Revolutionary War. Much later, this inn was a favorite of Franklin D. Roosevelt, who used the inn's porch as the backdrop for numerous campaign speeches.
The names of the ghosts who live at the Beekman Arms are not known, but they are present.
Paranormal groups and ghost hunters have conducted numerous investigations on the property and have found much evidence that spirits of those long dead remain.
The part of the inn that is most haunted, they say, is the tavern. It makes sense since this is the oldest part of the inn.
The tavern is mostly unchanged from hundreds of years ago. Don't be surprised if a ghost pulls up the barstool next to you.
If you're very quiet while you sip your beer, you may be able to hear whispers and other strange sounds.
