This Fairytale Log Cabin Is the Perfect Home Base for New Hampshire’s Best Hiking Trails
Book a stay at this beautiful log cabin in Bretton Woods that's the perfect spot to explore New Hampshire's best hiking trails.
I think it’s safe to say that some of the best hiking trails in New Hampshire can be found in the White Mountain National Forest. From strenuous ridge hikes to vista viewpoints, this part of New Hampshire really is offensively beautiful. If you plan to hit the trails in the next few months, this fairytale cabin in Bretton Woods is the perfect home base.
Nestled on 32 acres of wildlife-filled land, this three-bedroom, one bathroom log cabin is practically perfect in every way. Once you check into this beautiful cabin in New Hampshire, you’re never going to want to leave.
This place transforms every season. During the warmer months, head over to the river and splash the day away in between games of volleyball and relaxing river floats on the Ammonoosuc River. In the winter, trade the swimsuit for skates and go ice skating.
If you’ve got a little patience (and luck), you’ll be treated to quite the wildlife show from the front porch. Moose sightings are pretty common, as well as the resident bald eagle or two that soars over the sky.
There are even a few hiking trails on the property you can explore. Of course, some of the best hikes in New Hampshire are just a short drive away. The Middle Sugarloaf Trailhead is one of the closest trails to this cabin. The out-and-back trail clocks in just shy of three miles and packs a punch with stunning views. It’s a moderately challenging hike with some stairs and the option to do North Sugarloaf too (or instead of).
For a slightly longer hike, check out the Hale Brook Trail. Now, this trail isn’t known for its vista views, but you do catch some glimpses through the trees. What I love about this trail is that you get a bit of everything: mountain views, waterfalls, and forest all rolled into one.
We haven’t even scratched the surface of all the hiking trails near Bretton Woods. To the east, we have the majestic Mount Washington, the highest peak in the Northeast. The Presidential Range of the White Mountains is overflowing with scenic hiking trails that will show you some of the tallest mountains in the Northeast. You could spend a lifetime hopping from trailhead to trailhead.
Here are some of the best hikes near Bretton Woods to give you a little trail inspiration:
- Lake of the Clouds from Mount Washington Summit (via Crawford Path)
- Presidential Traverse Trail (experienced hikers only)
- Mount Monroe (via Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail)
- Mont Oscar Loop
- Tunnel, Coronary Hills, and Ammonoosuc River Loop
The first three on that list are longer, all-day hikes, and the Presidential Traverse Trail is a tough trail that only experienced hikers should attempt. The last two are easier trails that just about anyone can complete in a couple of hours.
After a strenuous day of hiking, head back to the cabin and treat yourself to a relaxing soak in the hot tub (or river, if that’s your jam!). Once the sunsets, stick around and do a little stargazing—you’re in one of the best locations in the country to go stargazing!
