It's no secret among Nevadans that our state has some of the most spectacular haunts in the country. What can we say; ghosts just seem to love this state. Here at Only In Nevada, we've covered dozens of haunted places. We even compiled a road trip to some of the state's creepiest haunts! Well, it comes as no surprise that one of these places was just named the best haunted hotel in the COUNTRY. That's right. The Mizpah Hotel in Tonopah is officially one of the scariest hotels in the nation and we have to say that we agree. Just take a look.
Located in the rustic town of Tonopah, the Mizpah Hotel was just selected as the #1 Haunted Hotel In America by USA Today. You can view the rest of the list here.
We think the Mizpah Hotel is more than worthy of such a title. After all, it's been recognized as one of the scariest haunts that the Silver State has to offer for years. The Mizpah Hotel is one of the most historic hotels in Nevada so it only makes sense that there are some paranormal entities lingering here.
The hotel was built back in 1907. At a whopping five stories tall, it was considered the tallest building in Nevada at the time of its construction. It's seen every type of character imaginable, from rugged prospectors to stately politicians.
A lot has changed over the past century but the Mizpah Hotel has stayed delightfully the same. You can even still spend the night in this historic gem. Although, you might come across a ghost or two if you do.
The hotel has had its fair share of ghost sightings. It was even featured on an episode of Ghost Adventures on the Travel Channel.
One of the most popular ghosts is "The Lady In Red" who is consistently seen on the hotel's fifth floor. Legend has it that the lady was murdered in the hallway. If she's fond of you, she might leave you some pearls on your bed.
The spirits of children have also been witnessed wandering the hotel's hallways. Guests have reported hearing them running up and the down the halls, tugging at shirts, and even giggling. They are known to be very curious, but not malicious at all.
We can definitely understand why the Mizpah Hotel was named the best haunt in the country. Not only does it have plenty of ghost stories to tell but the hotel has remained a pleasant, if not slightly creepy, reminder of Nevada's early days. Have you had the chance to visit this iconic hotel?
