The One-Of-A-Kind Campground In Nebraska That You Must Visit Before Summer Ends
Two Rivers State Recreation Area offers a unique camping experience with options like reconditioned Union Pacific cabooses, fishing, and scenic trails.
Summer always seems to be over too soon, so Nebraskans love to get out there are make the best of it by camping whenever we can. Do you have your next camping destination picked out yet? Don't let summer pass you by without discovering this fun, unique campground that the whole family will love.
Welcome to Two Rivers State Recreation Area!
This fun recreation area near Waterloo is the ideal place for a family getaway.
You can find (almost) all the comforts of home in the little shop, along with a selection of foods for you and for the fish, if you plan on doing some fishing.
You can pitch a tent at any of the primitive sites...
...or set up your camper at any of the powered sites, and you'll have an awesome time either way.
But for a really unusual experience, book one of the converted Union Pacific cabooses.
There are 10 cabooses in all, and each sleeps up to six people. Two of the beds are located in the cupola, which is a super fun place for kids to sleep.
Each "cabin" is air-conditioned and features a modern bathroom. They even have kitchens with all appliances!
If it's too hot to cook inside (or if you just enjoy the experience of cooking outdoors), make use of the grill and picnic table in the back.
And you may need it after a day of fishing. The trout lake is full of fish that are destined to be your dinner, and there's even a wheelchair-accessible fishing pier.
The family will love the swimming beach. Take a dip in this cool water to escape the humid Nebraska day for a while.
If you're looking for a slightly drier experience, take a walk on one of the park's many trails. This wooded and well-trafficked park always has plenty to look at.
You'll spot some sights along the way that are just begging to be photographed.
Wildflowers adorn the grounds during the summer, and if you visit during the autumn, you'll get to see some spectacularly colored foliage.
Despite being a busy recreation area, there are still lots of peaceful places to find at Two Rivers. You'll feel utterly serene as you lean against a tree and gaze out at the water.
No matter how you decide to stay here - tent, cabin, or reconditioned caboose - this is one campground that you really don't want to miss.
