Montana’s Hotel Albert Is Also A Bar And Restaurant With An Eerie And Fascinating History

Less than 1,000 people call Fairview, Montana home. And to most, this little town in Richland County near the North Dakota border is just a blip on the radar. However, Fairview happens to be home to a bar and casino housed inside a building loaded with local history. If these walls could talk, they would certainly have a lot to say.

Hotel Albert has been part of the downtown Fairview area for just over a century.

It was built by Albert H. Phillips, the son of a Civil War captain who was originally from Iowa. While Phillips first lived in Glendive, he eventually relocated to the younger town of Fairview and settled there.

Phillips, who had always been involved in real estate, built the Hotel Albert as a business investment and to benefit the town.

But even he probably could not have imagined how much of a benefit it would be. The building operated as a hotel for decades, but it was so much more. Rumor has it that there was even a morgue downstairs at one point.

These days, any signs of the former morgue are long gone. Hotel Albert is a restaurant, bar and casino, and it's quite lively.

However, there are definitely rumors that this place is haunted.

Fairview isn't exactly a bustling town these days, but this gathering spot is still a local favorite.

From the friendly bartenders to the enticing casino games, it's easy to see why the locals love it.

Hotel Albert serves tasty bar food, which you can order on-site or for takeout.

There aren't many places to grab a bite to eat in Fairview. But even without the stiff competition, the food here is delicious.

Hotel Albert may not be a hotel anymore, but we're glad that it still bears its original name.
