Here in Montana, we're all about preserving our local history -- and sometimes, it really pays off. Butte was once known as the Richest Hill on Earth due to its booming mining operations, and around the turn of the 20th century, it was thriving. The historic Hotel Finlen was founded in 1924, and it's still standing (and more beautiful than ever).

You'll find Hotel Finlen on Broadway Street in Butte, where it has existed in some form since 1924.

That's when the Historic Tower was constructed, with retro mid-century motor inn joining it a bit later.

The property has been lovingly renovated and kept up-to-date, but it still has its original charms as well as some of the original fixtures.

The hotel was originally established by James Finlen, the son of Miles Finlen, an Irish immigrant who opened the McDermitt Hotel in Butte in 1889. It was built for $750,000, a hefty sum back then. After being owned by the same family for 40 years, the property was acquired by a group of four investors in 2018.

Some pretty famous faces have roamed these hotel corridors.

President Harry S. Truman, then-senator John F, Kennedy, Thomas Edison, and even Charles Lindbergh stayed here.

These days, the Hotel Finlen is a truly unique hotel that sits square in the middle of the second-largest Historic Landmark District in the country.

Walk right out the door and some of Butte's best restaurants and local businesses will be steps away.

The guest rooms are located in both the historic tower and the motor inn, with varying sizes and amenities.

There are a few suites with queen-sized beds and sofa beds for families or small groups of friends traveling together.

While you're here, check out the on-site Cavalier Lounge, a long-standing bar with a fantastic cocktail menu.
