This Airbnb in Mississippi Is Peak Fall Vibes
This Airbnb in Mississippi is the perfect home base while you check out Mississippi's fall foliage.
I’m sure Mississippi isn’t the first state that comes to mind when you think of fall foliage, and that’s fair. The Magnolia State is known for many things, but fall foliage isn’t in the top 10. Mississippi does, in fact, have some fall foliage; you just need to know where to look! I’m a big leaf peeper and was lucky enough to live in New England for five years, so I’m always looking forward to fall. Of course, Northern Mississippi is where you’ll get the most beautiful colors, so that’s where we are headed. This Airbnb in Mississippi is the perfect place to use as a home base while you check out the fall colors.
Rienzi is a sleepy little town in Alcorn County with fewer than 300 residents. Life moves slowly here, and things are generally pretty quiet. It’s an idyllic spot to spend a weekend away, and this cabin in Rienzi checks off all the boxes.
The cabin offers three bedrooms and two bathrooms, and plenty of space. If I had to describe this countryside cabin, I’d tell you it was an elegant space that’s done an excellent job merging modern and rustic. It feels like a luxury lodge!
Fall in Mississippi is the perfect time to be outside. The weather is calmer, the temperatures are cooler, and, most importantly, the bugs are at bay. Take advantage of the season and enjoy the spacious patio with an outdoor dining set and the gas grill. Of course, if you encounter any bad weather, a chef’s kitchen is ready and waiting for you to cook up your culinary masterpieces.
Tishomingo State Park is about 30 miles away, and I think it’s the best place to see the fall foliage in Mississippi. There are several hiking trails in the park, and each one is worthy of your time. The Bear Creek Outcroppings Trail is the most popular trail at Tishomingo State Park, but honestly, you can’t go wrong with any of them.
Since this is one of Mississippi’s most popular state parks, expect crowds. To beat the crowds, I recommend arriving early in the morning or visiting on a weekday.
While most of our northern friends see the leaves change beginning in September, we will have to wait a little longer. Mother Nature is anything but predictable, so it’s really impossible to give you a specific timeline on when the leaves will change color in Mississippi. I’ve lived in the south for most of my life, and I think we typically see the fall foliage in early November. End of October is a possibility, too! After all, one cold snap changes everything. The weather this year has been all over the place, so who knows what Mother Nature has in store for us this fall.
