This Waterfront Airbnb Is Near Voyageurs National Park

The only federal public land in Minnesota that bears an official "national park" designation is, aptly, Voyageurs National Park. Why aptly? Because most of the area of this unique park in the Land of 10,000 Lakes consists of water, which gives it a distinctly Minnesota feel. Although there's plenty to explore from the shorelines of Rainy and Kabetogama Lakes, to really experience Voyageurs, I think you need to get out on the water. Most of the campsites in the park are accessible only by boat, and many are on their own private islands. You also need a boat to reach some of the park's best-known attractions, like Kettle Falls. This is why, when I visit and am not camping, I always look for accommodations on the water, preferably with a dock—like this newly-renovated lake home on Rainy Lake.

In fact, if you're looking for a place from which to stage your Voyageurs National Park adventures, I don't think you'll do much better—especially if you're traveling with your family or a group of friends. The lake home can accommodate up to eight guests in three bedrooms and two-and-a-half baths, making it perfect for a large or extended family, a friends' weekend, or a couples' retreat.

You'll find plenty of interior space for those (hopefully rare) moments you're not enjoying the outdoors, where you can relax by the fireplace, enjoy the views, or sit down to a meal in the home's capacious, well-appointed kitchen. On the other hand, if you don't feel like cooking—or you get skunked fishing—International Falls is less than 15 minutes away and offers plenty of dining options from which to choose.

When you're not on the water or exploring the park, you'll want to take advantage of this Airbnb's outdoor spaces. Its expansive 1,000-square-foot deck offers incredible views of Rainy Lake and the Northwoods. Hang out as a group around the cozy fire table, enjoying a cup of coffee or your favorite cool beverage.

Or grab a book and your headphones and kick back in one of the comfy Adirondack chairs. Believe me, you'll won't be pressed to find ways to relax here.
