Enjoy a Groovy Late-Summer Adventure at this Retro Airbnb in Kansas
A 1970s travel trailer in the backyard sets the backdrop for fun, no matter the season, at this retro retreat in Wichita.
Is it summer? Is it fall? As the hazy days of summer wind down and the cool breezes of fall blow in, the seasons seem to change from day to day (and sometimes from hour to hour). Don’t let the clash of seasons throw you for a loop. Instead, book a stay at the Retro Flamingo Airbnb in Wichita to enjoy a groovy backyard that’s ready for any weather. Take a dip in the stock tank pool, hop into the hot tub, and then hang out in the vintage camper trailer. As awe-inspiring as the backyard is, the vibes continue in the colorful mid-century modern home packed with creative touches.
As an avid RVer, I love vintage camping trailers, so when I spotted the vintage 1973 Go-Tag-Along travel trailer in Retro Flamingo Airbnb's photos, I was immediately drawn in. It’s seriously the cutest backdrop for Instagram photos. This backyard bonus is set up as an extra lounge space or photo booth and outfitted with groovy accessories to give it a '70s vibe. There are even some iconic pink flamingos to greet you.
Those yard flamingoes aren’t the only pop of pink in this over-the-top backyard. You might spot a giant flamingo floating in the stock tank pool. Since the warm days in Kansas sometimes trickle into October, the hosts keep this cool pool open, so you can make one last splash before the chill sets in. Once those temperatures dip, the backyard hot tub is a prime spot to warm up.
Seasonal tropical plants, tiki huts, and a massive pagoda help put you in vacation mode. Gather around the fire pit while relaxing in Adirondack chairs, stretch out in the hammock, or get competitive with the giant yard Yahtzee. If cooking is your thing, this maxed-out backyard offers a massive Blackstone griddle, as well as a charcoal grill. If the seasonal vegetables are ready, you can even help yourself to them. I've never seen that at a vacation rental before!
Now, let’s head inside this mid-century darling. From the front facade, you’d never imagine the jewel-toned interior inside. This place is packed with color. The living room is painted Barbie pink, but not in a childish way. Somehow, this popping pink is elevated thanks to the lush wood ceiling, large garden windows, and sophisticated decor. You'll even find a corner tiki bar, so you can keep the good times rolling.
The colors continue through all three bedrooms in the Retro Flamingo, which offers four beds, allowing the home to host six guests. You could spend hours looking at all of the interesting wall art and quirky accessories, including everything from a vintage Ouija-style "talking board" to a collection of vinyl records (which you can play on the retro record player).
If you want to venture out to find some Wichita attractions that are as unique as the Retro Flamingo Airbnb, start with a visit to the hidden troll near the Wichita Riverwalk. Stick around for the nightly Ring of Fire show, which lights up the massive Keeper of the Plains statue. While not as hidden as the troll, the unassuming exterior of Fried Rice hides one of the best international restaurants in the state.
The Retro Flamingo has a perfect five-star rating on Airbnb, and it’s easy to see why. I think this would make a perfectly groovy getaway for a girls’ trip or a couples' escape. The backyard can keep you entertained for days, whether the weather serves up summer or fall temperatures. To find more photos and book your stay, check out the Retro Flamingo on Airbnb. Survive the clash of the seasons with a sublime stay at this made-for-fun vacation rental.
