This Indiana Airbnb Looks Like It Belongs in Santorini, Greece
When the bucket list says Greece, but the budget says Midwest, it’s time to take a closer look at this Indiana Airbnb that looks like it belongs in Santorini.
As an outsider, I had no clue until a few summers ago that Indiana has one of the most beautiful beaches in the United States. I didn’t even think that sentence could exist about a Midwest state. It just goes to show how easy it is to miss incredible things practically in our backyard… for an entire lifetime. Which brings me to this Airbnb that looks like a Santorini stay: a beachfront villa with unbelievable views of Lake Michigan.
What Makes This Airbnb Feel Like a Stay on Santorini
If you’re doubting that a sleepy state like Indiana could have a beach that remotely resembles a coastal, Greek oasis, you clearly haven’t been to Indiana Dunes National Park. I consider it the most underrated national park in the U.S. It’s really incomprehensible just how much Lake Michigan looks like an ocean, and just how breathtaking the dune beaches are, until you’ve stood there with your jaw dropping down to your toes stuck firmly in the sand. Now, if you add a streamlined, luxury white villa atop a 60-foot sandy bluff, add a few wrap-around balconies with bougie amenities, and pour a glass of frosty Assyrtiko to sip over the sunset, you will get it. In fact, it’s so easy to convince yourself of this Santorini destination dupe, the owners of this Indiana Airbnb actually named it “Santorini.”
The Best Features of This Indiana Airbnb on the Beach
Undoubtedly one of the most unique Airbnbs in Indiana, this property offers features that go far beyond its dreamy waterfront location. It’s a genuine Greek Island-inspired mansion, boasting 270-degree views of Lake Michigan with direct beach access. That’s, of course, in addition to 8,000 square feet of indoor space plus 5,000 more perched on its endless outdoor terraces, decks, and balconies. The private villa also includes nine bedrooms, six bathrooms, two gourmet kitchens, four bars, four fireplaces, two hot tubs, two outdoor showers, and two built-in grills. Staying for the two-night minimum will surely be a splurge, but will likely still cost far, far less than a week in Santorini, making it an ideal destination dupe.
Nearby Attractions To Explore at Indiana Dunes National Park
If you can manage to pull yourself away from the breezy, waterfront terraces at “Santorini” Airbnb, you’ll find yourself just minutes from Indiana Dunes National Park. It’s a stellar, outdoor adventure paradise, offering endless, scenic dune hikes that climb over 200 feet and drop back down to 15 miles of stunning Indiana shoreline, too. I also recommend taking the 3 Dunes Challenge in the neighboring Indiana Dunes State Park, exploring the Portage Riverwalk, and stopping by the Century of Progress Homes. My favorite beach is Beverly Shores, also known as Lake View Beach. You can access it just below the Century of Progress Homes. From there you can easily walk in the sand to nearby, notable beaches like Kemil Beach and Dunbar Beach.
The best time to visit Indiana Dunes National Park is between May and September.
