This VRBO in Illinois Is Peak Fall Vibes

This cabin will have you living the lake life long after swimming season has called it quits.

Just because summer is ending doesn't mean you have to say goodbye to lake life. With so many gorgeous lakes in Illinois, it's hard to imagine parting ways with them after only a few short months. Lake Decatur doesn't get any less beautiful just because the temperatures finally drop below 80 degrees. That's how a cabin like The Ridge can capture all the magic of summer in the much preferred hues and vibes of fall. After all, what could be better than relaxing in a hot tub on the porch with a full view of the lake at sunset as the trees slide into their autumnal glory? Nothing!

This picturesque A-frame cabin perched on the shore of Lake Decatur is perfectly sized for any casual fall getaway. It comfortably sleeps seven and has spectacular lake views from four separate levels of the home. If it's too chilly to daydream staring at the lake from one of the two decks, get cozy in the living room where the dramatic windows give you all the sights without the chill.

Beyond a weekend-long hot tub hang, you'll lose yourself in the warmth of the home. Dark wood tones scream autumn with a host of comfortable furniture to ensure the comfiest of weekends. Although the cabin isn't huge, it feels spacious. There's a full kitchen for the ever-needed evening pot of chili or a quick cup of coffee, and plenty of areas to spread out with a board game or two. I've never asked why so many of my fellow Midwesterners are such avid board game fanatics, but I can assume it's for nights like these.

On those fall vacation days when you're not ready to let go of summer, you can pop over to The Tornado Truck. Comfort food connoisseurs will be pleased to know that this Decatur spot features carnival eats on the menu all year round. Funnel cake in hand, you and your vacation crew can camp out in the three-season room, gazing out onto the lake. Lake Decatur isn't just any old Illinois lake, either; it's one of the best!

Please take advantage of that lake access before the winter settles in for her usual too-long slumber. The Ridge offers two included kayaks and a paddle board, available from April 15 through the end of October, plus a GoBoat available for an additional fee. For those less inclined to be aquatic, like myself, there's always the option of fishing off the dock or simply lounging around on the deck. Whatever perch you find, you can't go wrong with this Illinois cabin made for a fall moment.

If you fall in love with this part of the Prairie State, consider returning in the winter months. The nearby town of Argenta has an ice festival every February if you're brrave enough to get outside for some lovely sculptures!
