Get Away From It All At This Remote And Beautiful Campground In Colorado

There are so many amazing campgrounds in Colorado! It's hard to choose from the many options available to us. However, every once in a while, you find one that you want to go back to time and time again. Fourmile Campground near Fairplay, Colorado, is one such campground. It's remote and beautiful, yet at the same time, it's not all that far from Fairplay if you need to run into town for supplies. You'll love everything about this very special spot, and once you visit once, you'll want to go back to it frequently. Read on to learn more about it.

You're going to love Fourmile Campground near Fairplay, Colorado. This campground is easy to find. Just south of Fairplay, take a right onto 4 Mile Creek Road (CR 18). Follow that for about 25 minutes and you'll see the sign for Fourmile Campground.

You'll also pass lots of beaver dams like this one along the way, plus numerous dispersed camping spots, and Horseshoe Campground which is also very nice. One thing you should know about this journey, though, is that CR 18 is extremely bouncy. It's not a great road. You'll have to take it slow! It's only about 4 miles to Fourmile Campground (hence the name!), but it will take you nearly a half hour to reach it safely.

Once you arrive, you'll be glad that you made it, and you'll be ready to enjoy the wonderful camping opportunities that this place has to offer you.

The elevation of this campround os 10,760'! It's way up there. Hopefully you brought some warm clothes, because even in the middle of the summer, it can be quite cold up there.

At Fourmile Campground, you'll find 14 campsites; parking surfaces are gravel. As you can see from this aerial view, the sites are spaced out quite nicely. You won't be right on top of your neighbors.

And, there's plenty of shade!

Facilities include vault toilets, picnic tables, water, and fire rings.

All sites are first come, first serve. This campground is open from mid-May to mid-October every year.

The sites are great for tent camping! There's room for two vehicles at each site. There's a two-night minimum stay on weekends and a three-night minimum stay on holiday weekends.

The campsites here are also great for trailers and RVs. However, keep in mind that they are limited to trailers 22 feet long or fewer.

You'll find that there's plenty of room to set up and enjoy a pleasant camping trip by yourself or with your companions.

You might hang up a hammock and spend some time in it relaxing with your dogs or with a good book.

Of course, you'll certainly want to spend some time around the campfire.

Be sure to check ahead of time for fire restrictions, though. If fires are banned due to fire danger, you'll want to bring a camp stove to cook your meals.

If you want to get out and explore the area a bit, you can continue further on CR 18 and check out the ruins of the town of Leavick.

A few people still live there, but not many!

The Leavick Mill is the largest remaining structure in this area. This mill was built in 1892 to process silver ores from the nearby Hilltop and Last Chance mines.

You also might enjoy hiking the nearby Limber Grove Trail. The trailhead is mere steps away from the entrance to Fourmile Campground. This a 3.5-mile out-and-back trail that is rated moderately challenging.

You'll get to see numerous ancient bristlecone pines along the way. You don't have to do the entire trail to see them either; there are several that are not very far from the trailhead.

And, if you feel like you want a restaurant meal or if you'd like to run into town for more supplies, Fairplay is less than a half hour away!

This campground is perfect. It has a little bit of everything, and it's remote yet not TOO far from civilization, either. It really has it all!

Fourmile Campground near Fairplay, Colorado is a spectacular place to camp and get away from it all for a few days. You'll only be about 25 minutes from Fairplay, but you'll feel like you're super deep in the mountains. It's quiet, remote, and beautiful. You're going to love this campground.
