You’ll Never Forget Your Stay At Sylvan Lake State Park, A Waterfront Campground In Colorado

Are you looking for the best campground near Eagle, Colorado? Sylvan Lake State Park is the one you seek. It's spectacular! There are 42 state parks in Colorado. When I moved here in 2013, I made a point to visit ALL of them - it was a feat that took me three years to complete. On that mission,I learned that they're all great but some are better than others, and I'd put Sylvan Lake State Park in my personal Top Ten. Don't miss it! This 1,548-acre park is surrounded by mountains and is centered around a 42-acre lake. It's a wonderful place to camp and enjoy recreational opportunities - or to simply sit back and relax and enjoy the scenery. Read on to learn more about it!

Sylvan Lake State Park is just 10 miles south of I-70. It's easy to access, yet you'll feel like you're deep, deep, deep in the Rockies when you arrive. Perfect!

This park was established in 1987. It's surrounded by the White River National Forest and is located at 8500' of elevation.

It's a wonderful place to camp! Sylvan Lake State Park has 44 campsites. Because this place is so popular, you'll need to book well in advance to get one, but the advance planning is well worth it.

This park is open year-round for both recreation and camping.

Each campsite can accommodate up to two tents or one tent and one RV. There are no camper hookups but water is available and in the summer months, there are even flush toilets and coin-operated showers here. The rest of the year, there are vault toilets that you can use.

Additionally, there are nine cabins here that you can rent if you'd rather sleep inside. The cabins are available for rent all year. There's one large cabin for bigger groups and eight smaller ones like the one pictured here.

There are also three yurts available from May to November.

Sylvan Lake State Park has 1.5 miles of trails for you to explore. You can wander through aspen groves and lodgepole pine and Douglas fir forests. You'll also find Ponderosa pines and junipers here as well as riparian areas along the lake.

You can also hop on the 5.8-mile West Brush Creek Trail here, and there are dozens of great trails to try in the adjacent national forest.

This lake is a great one for people who like to fish! It's stocked with rainbow and cutthroat trout, and you can also catch brown trout and brook trout. Of course, you'll need a fishing license to fish here, but if you don't have one you can pick one up at the park's visitor center.

Boating on Sylvan Lake is also lovely. Only boats non-motorized or electric boats are permitted to keep the area quiet and serene. In the summer months, you can rent paddleboards,, canoes, and kayaks from the visitor center.

Don't be surprised if you see wildlife here! There are moose, black bear, elk, mule deer, pine marten, beavers, and so much more in this area.

There's lots to do in this state park, but you might decide that you just want to relax by the fire - and that's ok, too!

Sit back in a folding chair and spend some time looking up at the sky. Sunrises and sunsets at Sylvan Lake State Park are breathtakingly beautiful.
