This Southern California Airbnb Is Like Stepping Onto the Set of ‘Tombstone’

Ready to live out your greatest Wild West vigilante dreams in luxurious comfort? You’re a daisy if you do.

If my collection of Doc Holliday t-shirts is any indication, I firmly believe that Tombstone is one of the greatest films ever made, and nobody can tell me otherwise. Maybe it has to do with living in and exploring the desert for so much of my life, or maybe it's just impossible not to swoon over Val Kilmer's slow, sarcastic drawl or the Earp clan's top-notch mustache game. Whatever the reason, I'm unapologetically obsessed. When I discovered that there are a few places in Southern California where you can rent an entire Wild West town, you'd better believe those 1800s-style vacation rentals went straight on my bucket list. At or near the top is Old West Temecula in SoCal: a completely private, full-sized town available on Airbnb that feels like an authentic corner of George P. Cosmatos' 1993 Tombstone set.

Spread out across five acres of the sunny, Southern California desert, just 30 miles from Escondido and 45 miles from the coast, Old West Temecula is an old-timey, carefully constructed slice of the frontier, complete with weathered boardwalks, swinging saloon doors, a genuine jailhouse, a bank with a working teller window, a chapel, and even a gold mine with a tiny mining cart on rails. The whole space brings to mind Tombstone’s historic O.K. Corral: the wide, dusty streets where tensions ran high and legendary comebacks were born. But don't feel like you need to be a member of Wyatt Earp's official posse and/or fan club to enjoy a stay here — just about any spaghetti western or Clint Eastwood film would still look right at home on this expansive cacti-dotted property.

Behind the rustic storefront façades sits a gorgeous modern home with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, outfitted with everything a group could want or need: a fully equipped kitchen, air conditioning (a must in SoCal), smart TVs, and plenty of comfy furnishings. Between the traditional beds and the bunks in both the jail and bank buildings (yes, you can sleep in the jail!), the space comfortably accommodates over 20 guests, making it a rare find for large families or groups of friends looking for an experience that's both a little cinematic and 100 percent unique.

While the concept of this Western town leans rustic, befitting the late 1800s in the Southwest, the accommodations here are wonderfully welcoming and modern. The bathrooms feature gold and copper fixtures and elegant tilework, while the spacious, well-appointed bedrooms are accented with cow-print fabrics and warm woods and feature beautiful French doors out to the covered terrace.

The real centerpiece of this full-town Airbnb is the saloon, a vaulted 1,100-square-foot space with a 15-foot bar, pool table, poker tables, and an antique player piano. Sidling in, you can easily imagine Doc Holliday himself easing onto a nearby barstool before a poker showdown or the Clanton gang sizing up their odds after bursting through the double saloon doors. Props and period details — including cowboy hats, old cash bags, and vintage signage — are scattered around, inviting visitors to step into the period if they feel so inclined.

Perhaps the coolest part about the saloon, though, is that it even has a second-story deck, perfect for enjoying a sunset overlooking the beautiful Temecula Wine Valley. But whether you’re suited up in a black three-piece with a duster or kicking back in pajamas, this is a great spot for family game nights, cocktail hours, or late-night jams around the piano.

Outside, the vibe shifts seamlessly from rustic to relaxing. A rock-lined fish pond fed by a gentle waterfall provides a quiet spot shaded by native oaks, while hammocks invite guests to nap or stargaze. A fire pit ringed with rustic seating is ideal for evening storytelling or marshmallow roasting. Nearby, an outdoor kitchen and BBQ setup make it easy to feed a crowd, and a jacuzzi spa tucked away in the shade offers a luxurious way to unwind after a day hiking the local trails.

While traditional watering hole-style adult beverages aren't included with your rental, this one-of-a-kind Airbnb is conveniently just a short drive to Temecula’s gorgeous vineyards — as in literally just minutes from over two dozen wineries and tasting rooms off Rancho California Road. For an even livelier evening, Pechanga Resort and Casino is about twenty minutes away, but you'll likely find it hard to tear yourself away from the property, where the authentic details and modern comfort combine to create a complete, immersive escape into the rugged Old West … but with high-speed Wi-Fi.

Southern California has some of the most beautiful and luxurious vacation rentals in the entire country, but for anyone craving a memorable trip that combines history, Hollywood, and hospitality, this Wild West-themed Airbnb is hard to beat. Whether for a special event, family reunion, or unique getaway, Old West Temecula is the coolest step back in time you never expected to find in the middle of the desert!
