There are so many beautiful Gold Rush towns in Northern California but not all of them have a working hotel that was once a saloon and boarding house. Located in the town of Volcano, the Volcano Union Inn was once a happening place in this once-booming area. Today this Northern California inn is ideal for a quiet and cozy getaway in the mountains.
Like many of the small towns in Northern California, Volcano boomed after the discovery of gold.
The town’s post office was established in 1851, and by 1852 the town had 300 hours, 11 stores, three saloons, and six hotels. One saloon was located at the Volcano Union Inn.
Originally constructed in 1880, it operated as both a saloon and boarding house for miners.
Who knows what this hotel has seen?! Fortunes made and lost, and perhaps even a duel or two.
Volcano Union Inn continued to operate as a boarding house until the 1920s.
For 80 years it underwent numerous transformations. Finally in 2000 it was restored, and today this old time-y building once again hosts guests from around the world.
This small and cozy inn has four comfortable and modern guest rooms, plus a popular pub and an event space.
All of the rooms have private bathrooms, plus Wi-Fi and luxury linens.
The rooms feature balcony access, ensuring a restful sleep in the fresh mountain air.
In the morning, guests will be treated to a delicious, chef-prepared breakfast.
The town of Volcano is situated in picturesque Amador County.
In this county visitors will find tons of wineries, historical sites, plus cute Gold Rush towns like Amador City, Sutter Creek, and Jackson.
