Epic Waterfall Trails in Alabama
To have a solid game plan for your aquatic adventures, let’s focus on some of the most popular waterfalls in Alabama. From the tallest to the smallest, each of these waterfalls is a magical display of Mother Nature’s power.
DeSoto Falls
This stunning 104-foot waterfall can be found in DeSoto State Park. As one of Alabama’s tallest waterfalls, this is a must-see! It’s enchanting in every season, and if the weather is warm enough, feel free to take a dip at the base of the falls.
Cheaha Falls
You’ll find this beautiful 20-foot waterfall upstream of Devil’s Den Falls. It’s a popular swimming hole during the warmer months, and the 2.2-mile out-and-back trail to view the falls is an easy trek through the Talladega National Forest.
Kinlock Falls
Knock for its clear, refreshing water, Kinlock Falls is an epic 20-foot waterfall and swimming hole in Alabama’s Bankhead National Forest. There’s a 10-foot jumping spot that’s a popular area in the summertime, and it’s one of the most easily accessible waterfalls in Alabama. It’s just a short and sweet 100-foot hike from the road!
The Best Airbnbs Near These Hikes
Luxury Tent in Cheaha State Park
Located in Cheaha State Park, this glamping tent is perfect for anyone looking for a hybrid between a cabin and an old-fashioned tent. Camping gear can cost a pretty penny, so why not test the lifestyle out before you commit? This tent has five beds (two sets of bunk beds and one king-sized bed), so bring the whole squad. The glampsite includes a Keurig coffee maker, a mini fridge, A/C, heat, and plenty of outlets for charging your devices. You’ll be sleeping at 2,415 feet of elevation, with spotty cell service, a small price to pay for the views. Did we mention it’s also pet-friendly?
With Cheaha State Park as your backyard, you’ll have endless opportunities for adventures. Some of the best waterfall hikes in Alabama are practically at your doorstep. CCC Reservoir Falls and Laurel Falls are both within the park, and Cheaha Falls, High Falls, and Devil’s Den are just outside the park’s borders.
Cabin in Mentone
This charming cabin in Mentone is perfect for a family getaway. The two-bedroom, two-bathroom cabin has three beds and can comfortably sleep up to six guests, and the location on top of Lookout Mountain is just perfect. Downtown Mentone is just one mile away, plus you’re in an ideal location to explore DeSoto Falls State Park. Some of my favorite waterfall hikes in Alabama are within this park, including Desoto Falls, Indian Falls, Laurel Falls, and Lost Falls.
After a day of exploring Alabama's waterfalls, head back to the cabin and relax in the hot tub that overlooks the mountains. What a view!
Treehouse in Double Springs
Your inner child will be filled with joy after spending a few nights in this treehouse in Double Springs. Ideal for two guests, the one-bedroom, one-bathroom treehouse overlooks the Sipset River and offers unmatched views of Bankhead National Forest.
This Airbnb is perfect for exploring the endless waterfalls within the Bankhead National Forest. Caney Creek Falls, Mize Mill Falls, and Parker Falls are all worthy of a side quest, plus who could resist an opportunity to visit Kinlock Falls? The hike to Kinlock Falls is really just a short walk from the road, and it’s another waterfall where you can go swimming.
