Every city has its special little quirks. Pittsburgh certainly does. But what may seem extremely weird to non-Pittsburghers is simply part of the beauty of living in Pittsburgh and being a Pittsburgher. Here are 11 weird things people from Pittsburgh do:

1. Put fries on our sandwiches and…

Fries and cole slaw on a sandwich all started with Primanti Brothers. It's an easy-to-carry sandwich with all the fixings that provides a hearty meal, especially for those in a hurry.

2. Salads

Second only to fries on a sandwich are fries on a salad. The Pittsburgh Salad features a generous helping of fries on top, turning a plain salad into a filling meal. Only in Pittsburgh.

3. Stop before the Squirrel Hill Tunnels

Maybe there's a tunnel monster. Perhaps there's a magnetic force that makes it impossible to maintain speed when we near the tunnel. Whatever it is, Pittsburghers slow to a near crawl - and sometimes stop altogether - before the Squirrel Hill Tunnels.

4. Wear shorts in the winter

There's no wrong time to wear shorts. Just ask the Pittsburghers who happily wear shorts all year long, even in the dead of winter and when snow covers the ground.

5. Wake up with the heat on and go to bed with the A/C on

Pittsburgh's weather can be pretty wacky. We can wake up with the heat on and have to put the A/C on before the day's end.

6. Drink in a church

How many people can say they've had dinner and a few brews in a church? Pittsburghers are lucky to have the Church Brew Works, a former church converted into a popular restaurant, at which to dine and to drink.

7. Cheer on pierogies

On your mark...get set...and off the Pittsburgh Pierogies go on a race around the field at PNC Park to the cheers of enthusiastic fans. Where else in the world can you see racing pierogies while also eating pierogies from the ballpark's food stand?

8. Dress up in furry costumes

Only in the summer will you notice fuzzy furries wandering the streets of Pittsburgh, all with their sights set on the convention center. The Anthrocon Furry Convention is a regular occurrence in the Burgh.

9. Eat a chipped chopped ham sandwich

Okay, it's not weird for us, but others might furrow an eyebrow when we say we're craving a chipped chopped ham or a chipped ham sandwich, just like Isaly's used to make.

10. Race anything that floats

Who needs to watch shiny boats racing up and down the river? We've got something much better: The annual Anything That Floats Race during the Three Rivers Regatta.

11. Eat a Big Mac while sitting near a...Big Mac?

Invented in the Burgh by Jim Delligatti, the Big Mac has become an American favorite. And, Pittsburghers can visit the Big Mac Museum in North Huntington and sit next to an over-sized Big Mac while eating, you guessed it, a Big Mac.
