There are other types of crimes taken into consideration for the safety of cities, but for the sake of this list, we are only taking a look at the chances of becoming a victim of violent crime in each city. These are the top 10 most dangerous places in North Dakota.
10. Jamestown
According to the latest FBI statistics, Jamestown had 37 incidents of violent crime. But you have to remember, in a town of 15,198, this is an extremely low number. It's much safer here than in many other American cities!
9. Watford City
Watford City comes second. The population is only around 2,793, yet there were still 42 acts of violent crime in 2019.
8. Dickinson
Dickinson ranks 8th. With a population of 23,428, this town had 52 recorded instances of violent crime.
7. West Fargo
For a town of 38,171, West Fargo's violent crime numbers aren't too high. This city only saw about 55 incidents of violent crime in 2019.
6. Mandan
Mandan comes in at 6th. There were 85 incidences of violent crime among the 23,012 residents in 2019.
5. Minot
Minot has a population of 48,185 people, and in 2019 they experienced 130 cases of violent crime. These statistics give it the 5th spot on our list.
4. Williston
Williston's ranking hasn't changed in many years. This town has a population of 28,966, and they only had three more instances of violent crime than Minot.
3. Grand Forks
The third largest city in North Dakota ranks third on our list. The population is 57,459, and the violent crime rate has risen since 2018.
2. Bismarck
The state capital and second biggest city, Bismarck, ranks 2nd. This city had 228 recorded incidents of violent crime in 2019.
1. Fargo
North Dakota's biggest city of Fargo is the only city in the state with a population over 100,000. It makes sense, then, that it also saw more violent crime than other places in the state. In 2019, Fargo had 574 incidences of violent crime.
