9 Long Gone Places Every Buffalonian Misses

Buffalonians reminisce about nine beloved places that have closed over the years.

The ebbs and flows of life are evident in Buffalo. When a door opens, another closes – and while this is a fact of life we've learned to deal with, it doesn't make the pain of losing our favorite places any easier. Get your tissues ready and prepare yourself for a walk down memory lane. Here are 9 long gone places every Buffalonian misses.

1. AM&A's

We couldn't begin this list without giving mention to AM & A's. This department store had a little bit of everything and their holiday window displays were amazing!

2. Super Flea

Oh, Super Flea. How we miss you! This was once an epic flea market in Cheektowaga, until it got torn down to become a Walmart. Buffalonians sorely miss this place, and for good reason. There were plenty of treasures to be found on the weekends here!

3. Record Theatre

The Record Theatre just recently closed their doors for the final time, and we're still in mourning over it.

4. The Aud

Watching games at The Aud fills the memory book of many Buffalonians. Although the building has been demolished, the legacy of this great venue lives on!

5. Thruway Mall

Ever heard of the Thruway Mall? Of course you have! Every Buffalonian misses this gem of a shopping center.

6. Crystal Beach

Crystal Beach might have been located across the border in Canada, but this long gone place was a summer staple for the Buffalo Baby Boomer generation!

7. Bethlehem Steel

It might sound strange to miss a steel plant, but Bethlehem Steel wasn't your ordinary establishment. The plant was a staple sitting along Route 5 until just recently, when a fire tore through the main building.

8. Freddie's Doughnuts

Buffalonians know a good donut when we see one, which is why this is a long gone place every Buffalonian misses! Freddie's Doughnuts were second to none.

9. Bells

Bells Supermarket stuck to a no-frills approach to grocery shopping, which Buffalonians appreciated. This back-to-basics store is surely missed!
