If you are looking for the perfect getaway in the Land of Enchantment, head to the mountains. Travel + Leisure listed the top 10 mountain towns in the country and Taos, New Mexico, made the list. Are we surprised? Not at all. This small town, surrounded by the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, is the perfect place to get away no matter the season.
Taos is a charming town with approximately 6,000 residents. The beauty of this area is astounding and you'll find it is hard to leave.
This small town is well-known for its ancient adobe buildings. Taos Pueblo is a historic pueblo and people have lived in this multi-story structure for more than 1,000 years. This is a National Historic Landmark that you can visit and tour.
Don’t forget to visit the tallest bridge in New Mexico. Located approximately 15 to 20 minutes outside of Taos is the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge. This bridge is 1,280 feet long and absolutely stunning.
It doesn’t matter if you are a nature lover or you just want to spend some time relaxing, Taos is the perfect place. There are many hikes in the area for all skill levels and with varying distances.

Make sure you bring your swimsuit as the Rio Grande River is an excellent place to experience white water rafting or kayaking.
During the winter months, head to the Taos Ski Valley. This world-class ski resort is perfect no matter your skill level. Approximately 49% of the terrain at this ski resort is designed for beginner and intermediate skiers and snowboarders.
