Get a fascinating glimpse of the past at Topaz Mill in Cabool, what's left of what was once a vibrant Missouri village.

While not a whole lot is known about this former village in the Ozarks, the old Topaz Mill is believed to have been built in the late 1890s.

What is known about the former village of Topaz is it became a lively community with the old mill, a general store, and a post office.

However, the vibrancy of the village eventually waned, with it becoming all but abandoned in the 1940s.

The old mill and store were all that remained. Today, both are owned by Billie O'Neal. Her nephew, Joe Bob and his wife Betsy care for and offer tours of the old mill and general store.

Tours are free, although donations are welcome, and provide a unique glimpse into the mill and the general store's history.

You might even get to see a demonstration of how millers used to grind corn.

Be sure to stop by at Christmastime, too, to see the general store and mill shimmering in holiday lights and adorned with decorations.
