Mississippi’s Very Own Violet Valley Bookstore Has Been Named One Of The Nation’s Top Independent Bookstores

We’ve got some great bookstores here in the Magnolia State, and Violet Valley Bookstore is one of them. Violet Valley isn't just one of the best in the state, though—it’s one of the top independent bookstores in the nation. You're going to want to see how it took that honor, too. Take a look:

Violet Valley Bookstore is located in a teeny tiny building in the small town of Water Valley.

More specifically, it’s wedged between BTC Grocery and the Warren Building on Water Valley’s Main Street.

In 2019, Oprah Magazine released a list of the top 20 independent bookstores in the nation and Violet Valley Bookstore took the number 12 spot.

Its inclusion on the list is especially impressive when you consider that the bookstore opened just a few years prior in 2017.

The award-winning bookstore is a dream come true for owner Jaime Harker, who’s always aspired to open a bookstore.

And it’s not just any bookstore. Violet Valley Bookstore is the only LGBTQ-friendly bookstore in the state.

In addition to LGBTQ history and biographies, the shelves are stocked with an array of other genres.

Look around and you’ll find fiction, feminism, children books, and more.

And since the store carries both new and used books, there’s something for every bibliophile’s price range.

The merchandise isn’t limited to books, though.

Jewelry, artwork, and other novelties are part of the inventory, too.
