There’s No House In The World Like This One In Minnesota
Ensculptic in Minnetrista, Minnesota, is a unique house made of hardened polyurethane insulation foam, resembling a giant mushroom.
In Minnesota, we are known for having a few buildings with some unique architecture like the Walker Art Center, The Weisman Museum, and some of our historic houses. This one house in particular, however, is extremely unique and unlike any other you'll find. This one-of-a-kind creation is in Minnetrista, and is definitely a work of art. In fact, it even has a title, "Ensculptic."
Ensculptic was the creation of architect Winslow Wedin in 1969.
It is made out of hardened polyurethane insulation foam, and resembles a giant mushroom-like growth when viewed from the tip.
In fact, a Life Magazine reporter once called it a “giant mushroom with portholes.”
The inside is 4,080 square feet and has a lot of windows and natural light.
It was created for $30,000, for a couple who wanted something affordable and innovative (specifically a freeform house).
In 2011, it was repurchased and restored to its former glory, after falling in disrepair for several years.
