13 Photos You’ll Only Understand If You Hail From Minnesota

Highlights unique experiences and landmarks that only Minnesotans would deeply understand and appreciate.

Folks who aren't from the Land of 10,000 Lakes may certainly recognize some of these images. But for those of us who live here, these are things that only Minnesotans will understand at a deeper level. One look at these images, and we know exactly what they depict and likely have our own memories and opinions about the place or time. Take a look!

1. You've crossed the largest river in North America on foot.

Many of us have visited Itasca State Park to see the headwaters of the Mississippi River.

2. You remember sitting in these seats to watch a game - or a concert or a monster truck rally.

At one point, the Minnesota Twins, the Vikings, and the Gophers all played in the Metrodome (as did the Timberwolves until Target Center was completed).

3. You know all the best foods that are served on sticks, and you know exactly where to find your favorites.

We know exactly what we're going to eat at the Minnesota State Fair before we even arrive.

4. You know this scene is nowhere near an ocean.

A visit to the beautiful city of Duluth, on Lake Superior, is a rite of passage in Minnesota.

5. Your high school let kids miss class to come here.

The Minnesota High School State Hockey Tournament is a very big deal in the Bold North, often selling out the 20,000-seat Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

6. You definitely trick-or-treated in the snow - and you remember the Halloween blizzard of 1991.

Or you've heard about every year of your life because they trot it out on the news every Halloween and before every snow storm. It's just part of living in Minnesota.

7. This was your favorite water tower.

It's still mine. Stay classy, Rochester, Minnesota.

8. You have a favorite among the state's many Paul Bunyan statues.

I'm partial to Bemidji's Paul and Babe, myself.

9. You know where to find this statue.

If you've ever visited - or even passed by - our elegant State Capitol, you know that this is The Quadriga in front of its dome.

10. When you look at this photo, you see blue mounds.

When settlers saw this upwelling of pink Sioux quartzite from a distance across the prairie, it looked blue against the horizon. And, you know it can be found at Blue Mounds State Park.

11. You've met this gal on a field trip or a weekend in the Cities.

A visit to the Science Museum of Minnesota is always a special occasion.

12. You could watch these guys swimming for hours.

The Como Zoo polar bears are beloved by all, and visiting them is one of our favorite things to do in Minnesota.

13. You see a gray duck in this picture.

If you know, you know.

Obviously, there are so many unique and wonderful things about life in Minnesota, we could have included dozens more images that would only make real sense to those of us who've lived here.
