Of All The Cities In America This One In Maine Was Ranked Among The Safest

We all know that Maine is among the safest states in the country, but have you ever wondered which is the safest city in Maine? We did and all of our questions were answered recently when WalletHub did an in-depth analysis of every state in America to name the safest cities in the country. While Maine didn't have to make the list, we're very proud it did! The city is one we've all heard of, but it might surprise you to find that it's not one of the smaller towns off-the-beaten-path!

Portland, located in southern Maine's Cumberland County, is one of the most popular destinations in the state. And, luckily for those who live here, it's also considered one of the safest cities in the entire country!

Not only is Portland on the list of safest cities in America, but it earned the #6 spot, beating out neighbors like Warwick, RI (#7 on the list) and Manchester, NH (#11 on the list.)

To create the list, WalletHub evaluated 180 different cities on 44 different measurement points. These included things like COVID-19 deaths per capita in the last week, the unemployment rate, assaults per capita, and even the quality of roads.

WalletHub then created three key measurements incorporating these elements. These were condensed into "Home and Community Safety," "Natural Disaster Risk," and "Financial Safety."

All together, Portland earned a score of 82.98. To put it into perspective, Columbia, Maryland, the #1 city, earned a score of 87.83. That feels pretty close to us!

Portland scored well in the Natural Disaster Risk category, coming in at #11 among all 180 cities.

Coming in at #15 for Home & Community Safety, Portland solidified its spot at the top.

The city even scored well in the Financial Security category, coming in at #21 among all 180 cities.

We already knew being in Portland felt good, but knowing it's now recognized as one of the top 10 safest cities in America is pretty special!
