It’s no secret that Louisiana is the best state in the country. From the people to the cuisine, we have so much to offer! In no particular order, here are 9 ways Louisiana has quietly become the most unique state in the nation.
1. We greatly influenced the music scene.
From the Louisiana Hayride in Shreveport giving way to great musicians like Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley to swamp pop and of course, jazz, Louisiana has had a hand in influencing some of the greatest musicians in history.
2. We’re a sportsman’s paradise.
Hunting and fishing is in our blood. We are blessed to have some of the best saltwater and freshwater fishing in the country, and people travel from all over just to experience it.
3. Our food simply cannot be beat.
People travel from all over the world to try it, chefs spend years studying it, and we are lucky enough to enjoy it whenever we want. But it’s not just the gumbo, jambalaya, crawfish, and many other Cajun and Creole dishes that make Louisiana so special, but the family recipes that are passed down from generation to generation. You won’t find that just anywhere!
4. Cajun and Creole culture.
Louisianians are proud of our heritage, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Not only do we pass our recipes down from generation to generation, but you can visit places like Vermilionville, where you can learn about the day to day lives of Louisiana’s earliest residents.
5. We like to celebrate.
With more than 400 different festivals each year, it’s no surprise that Louisiana earned the nickname of being the "Festival Capital of America." From tamales to hot air balloons, we’ll throw a festival for just about anything.
6. Two words: Mardi Gras.
No other state has anything quite like it, and millions of tourists flock to New Orleans each year to check it off their bucket lists.
7. We have some of the most breathtaking natural landscapes.
From the rolling hills of northern Louisiana to our beautiful bayous, our natural scenery simply can’t be beat.
8. Seriously, our waterways are the best.
So many Louisianians learn to drive a boat before they learn to drive a car, and speaks volumes to how much Louisianians love being on the water.
9. Even our roads are scenic.
There's no better place to enjoy a scenic drive.
