You’ll find Laurel Valley Plantation over in Thibodaux.

The Laurel Valley Plantation was once owned by Joseph Tucker, who purchased roughly 50,000 acres of land along Bayou Lafourche.

At one time, it was the largest sugar producer in Lafourche Parish.

While the plantation was destroyed during the Civil War, you can still see the ruins of the sugar mill.

With over 50 original structures still remaining, it’s the largest surviving sugar plantation in the country.

It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

You’ll feel like you’ve been transported back through time as you drive along the road.

Some of the buildings date back to the 1830s. You’ll see dozens of slave quarter and Creole cabins along the drive.

Be sure to pop into the plantation store on your way out.

Part museum and part store, this little general store is a must if you visit Laurel Valley.

It’s a great place to stock up on homemade jams, jellies, and other local products, as well as to check out the old photographs and tools used for sugar cane cultivation.

You’ll also find lots of farm animals wandering about and you can buy a bag of feed for them if you’d like - it’s a great treat for the kids!
