The iconic Chicago Union Station first opened in May 1925. The idea for it first came from architect Daniel Burnham and it was ultimately constructed by the architectural firm Graham, Anderson, Probst, and White.
The exterior's gorgeous limestone was quarried in the neighboring state of Indiana. Once passengers enter the doors from the outside, they are brought into an ornate and jaw-dropping interior.
The Beaux-Arts-style Great Hall featuring a 110-foot-tall atrium and barrel-vaulted skylights is something of an architectural marvel. This alone will make you understand why the Chicago Union Station is considered one of the most beautiful train stations in the country.
