What food is Connecticut known for? Are you curious about what makes up the list of iconic foods from Connecticut? If you happened to grow up in the state then you can probably imagine, but if you're new in town, you might be looking to get more in tune with your state. These foods are the most popular of the menu options and may even be considered classics. Check out this list of Connecticut food, and see how many you've already tried!
1. Hot Lobster Rolls
Hot buttered lobster served with lettuce in a toasted and buttered bread roll is far superior to those cold lobster salad with mayo sandwiches they serve in other states. If you like lobster dinners along the coast then you definitely need to check out Connecticut!
2. Steamed Cheeseburgers
Forget the greasy charred burgers of past barbecues! The steamed burger is cooked to perfection with stringy melted cheese. This Connecticut food is a don't miss delicacy!
3. Hot Dogs
When a state has a hot dog tour you know they're pretty serious about their weeners. A split dog with Capitol Lunch's famous sauce is our personal favorite, but you can get an incredible hot dog just about anywhere in Connecticut.
4. Deep River Snacks
These kettle cooked chips are a crunchy miracle that come in a variety of flavors, with salt & vinegar being the most popular. A lot of folks like pairing these with their hot dogs or putting them on top of their sandwiches.
5. Apple Cider
Connecticut has maintained its tradition of family owned orchards and continues to produce a lot of local apple cider and attract a lot of apple pickers. In fact, some people say cider whether they're talking about the warm winter drink or the juice packs. But who buys juice packs when you can have the real thing?
6. Homemade Ice Cream
That's right! Connecticut is known for its superior ice cream joints, in particular the dairy farms. You can actually see the cows your ice cream came from as you're standing in line. Unique flavors, creamy richness, and the perfect atmosphere. A must do in the summer time!
7. PEZ Candy
The Constitution State invented these candies! While many have collected the plastic dispensers, the real treat is the pill sized candies that fit inside of it. We are also home to the visitor center and the largest dispenser in existence.
8. New Haven Style Clam Pie
We are famous for our apizza, unique to New Haven and surrounding areas - its perhaps the most famous food in Connecticut. But the one flavor you absolutely have to try is the clam pie. It combines the state's rich Italian history with its love of seafood in a way that is simply explosive.
9. Donuts
Home to some of the best donut shops in America, we even offer them in a square shape! Little mom and pop shops are way better than the giant chains.
10. Foxon Park Soda
If you've never tasted White Birch Soda then you've never lived! The minty bubblegum taste is delicious, but honestly, so is every other flavor. You'll immediately recognize the natural sugar taste and you'll enjoy the classic glass bottles too.
Food from Connecticut simply tastes better with that iconic salty sea air on a warm sunny day. What do you think is the best food from CT? Share your favorite Connecticut food with a comment.
