Most People Don’t Know These 10 Movies Were Filmed In Connecticut

Many popular movies were filmed in various locations across Connecticut, often disguised as other places.

Just because the plot of the movie involves going to some foreign land, that doesn't mean it wasn't actually filmed in Connecticut.  Hollywood can't resist Connecticut's superior backdrop and natural good looks.  Think you know all the movies filmed in Connecticut? Find out!

1. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

The 2008 installment to the Indiana Jones series featured an epic chase scene through fictional Marshall College which was actually Yale University in disguise. Could you tell it was New Haven all along?

2. Courage Under Fire

This 1996 military movie about a cover up was mostly shot in Bloomfield.

3. War of the Worlds

This 2005 sci-fi film made its way around New England, but the memorable, and arguably most eerie scene, goes to Connecticut. The river full of bodies is actually the Farmington River in Windsor.

4. The Stepford Wives

Both the 1975 and 2004 versions were shot in Connecticut. But the 1975 movie featured Redding, Weston and Westport while the remake focused in on Darien, New Canaan, and Norwalk.

5. Die Hard With A Vengeance

Most people think this film was shot entirely in New York, but I'll let you in on a little secret. The highway scenes were actually shot on the Merritt Parkway in Fairfield County.

6. Mystic Pizza

Surprise! Most of this movie wasn't shot in Mystic. It was filmed in neighboring towns and Long Island. The pizza shop was actually a renovated apartment. The actual Mystic Pizza was changed to look like the movie later.

7. Mr. Deeds

Even though Adam Sandler's character is supposed to be from a fictional town in New Hampshire, this comedy was filmed in New Milford.

8. Boychoir

Starring Dustin Hoffman, one of my all time favorites, this 2014 drama was filmed in Stamford, New Haven, and Fairfield.

9. Goats

This drama-comedy used Watertown as the sight of their fictional boarding school.

10. The Hunt for Red October

This cold war spy thriller shot scenes as far away as Alaska. But they chose the U.S. Naval Base in Groton for the main backdrop!

Were you surprised by any of the movies on this list?
