According To FBI Statistics, These Are The 8 Most Dangerous Cities In Colorado For 2022

Colorado is famous for its majestic mountainsides, ample outdoor activities, dazzling cityscapes, and stellar job market, so it should come as no surprise that people from both near and far are flocking to the state in hopes of calling it home. No to mention - the state parks of Colorado are mind-bendingly amazing, bringing in droves of people all on their own. Sadly, with an increase in population comes an increase in crime, which can be seen via the FBI's Crime in the United States report, which covers nearly every Colorado town and city. As per their latest report (released in 2019), the eight most dangerous cities in Colorado are:

1. Glendale

While it may be small in terms of population (5,289), this Denver suburb has an alarmingly high crime rate, with 50 violent crimes - five rapes, 14 robberies, and 30 aggravated assaults - reported in 2019 alone. As if that wasn't alarming enough, Glendale also had a whopping 936 property crimes, which consisted of 22 burglaries, 833 larceny thefts, and 81 motor vehicle thefts.

2. Sheridan

Located just southwest of Denver, Sheridan is another small but dangerous Colorado town, thanks to 28 violent crimes (four rapes, seven robberies, and 17 aggravated assaults) amidst 6,233 residents. In addition to violent crimes, the FBI also reports 450 property crimes, made up of 37 burglaries, 369 larceny thefts, and 44 motor vehicle thefts. It's worth noting, though, that all of these are lower than they were last year.

3. Pueblo

The second-largest city on our list of the 10 most dangerous cities is Pueblo, which is home to not only 112,381 residents, but had 1,110 violent crimes (110 rapes and 481 aggravated assaults, among other things). Sadly, the numbers get worse, as Pueblo is also said to have experienced 4,801 property crimes (894 burglaries, 4,801 larceny thefts, 699 motor vehicle thefts, AND 61 cases of arson).

4. Alamosa

Located in southern Colorado, Alamosa is home to nearly 10,086 residents and - sadly - 63 violent crimes (17 rapes, five robberies, and 40 aggravated assaults). Like all the other towns, Alamosa has also seen its fair share of property crimes, including 94 burglaries, 392 larceny thefts, 25 motor vehicle thefts, and five cases of arson.

5. Canon City

Famous for such attractions as the world-famous Royal Gorge, Canon City (population 16,793) is also home to an alarmingly high rate of both violent and property crimes. According to the FBI's statistics, Canon City experienced more than 100 violent crimes (37 rapes, two robberies, and 61 aggravated assaults) in 2019, as well as 818 property crimes (136 burglaries, 635 larceny thefts, 47 motor vehicle thefts, and six cases of arson).

6. Denver

Seeing as though so many suburbs made the list, it should come as no surprise that our capital city is having its fair share of trouble, too. Home to 728,941 residents, Denver saw a jaw-dropping rate of violent crime in 2019, with 67 murders, 713 rapes, 1,205 robberies, and 3,474 aggravated assaults, which totaled 5,459 incidents. While these numbers seem shocking enough, the property crime tallies are even higher, with 27,288 different cases including 3,967 burglaries, 18,027 larceny thefts, 5,294 motor vehicle thefts, and 107 cases of arson.

7. La Junta

Home to 6,983 residents, La Junta appears to be your regular All-American small town, but even charming communities have their share of trouble. In the case of La Junta, the problem comes in the form of 32 violent crimes (15 rapes, three robberies, and 13 aggravated assaults) and 386 property crimes (83 burglaries, 279 larceny thefts, 24 motor vehicle thefts, and one case of arson).

8. Trinidad

Last on the FBI's Crime in the United States report is Trinidad, which sits on the Colorado/New Mexico border with its 8,116 residents. While it comes in at the end of the list, Trinidad has still seen a staggering amount of crime, including 38 violent ones that include nine robberies, 29 aggravated assaults, 67 burglaries, 263 larceny thefts, 20 motor vehicle thefts, and three cases of arson.
