Established in 1986, the Arkansas Air and Military Museum has been a staple in the Fayetteville community.
Located at Drake Field Airport inside the historic 1940s White Hangar, this museum has a fascinating display of wartime aircraft as well as classic airplanes.
You’ll be in awe of the size of the hanger as well as the number of aircraft that are on display.
Not only does this museum serve as a treasure trove for old planes and military crafts, but it is also a place for many yearly events including Summer camps, air shows, balloon festivals as well as car shows.
If you’re a history buff, chances are you’ll love everything about this museum. And not to mention the kids will also love it too. It’s perhaps one of the best family-friendly attractions in Arkansas.
And there is no shortage of what you’ll see and discover at the museum. From cool one-of-a-kind high-speed airplanes…
…to this monster 88,000-pound military helicopter, the largest of its kind in operation.
And if you think that’s big, check out this C-130 Hercules that was used by the military during the Vietnam War. The H-model is permanently housed at the museum.
If you don’t care for military planes, there are also classic aircraft that will impress the aviator in you. How about a timeless relic like this 1931 Stinson Junior?
Isn’t she a beauty? I wouldn’t mind flying in an aircraft like this, and the good news is, the museum takes reservations for flights.
Aside from the aircraft, there are guided tours, wartime artifacts, memorabilia as well as articles paying homage to Arkansas’ aviator heroes.
Plus, the kids will love climbing inside the designated exhibit aircraft. There’s no doubt that this one-of-a-kind museum in Arkansas is a unique place to visit for the entire family.
