Southern California is well known for its beaches, and many consider them some of the best in the entire world. The parking lot at El Matador is very small, which usually means that the beach isn't very crowded. We recommend getting there early, so you can get a parking spot.

You can get to El Matador from the Pacific Coast Highway, but you will have to be attentive. There is only one small sign that tells you you are approaching El Matador State Beach, and it is easy to miss.

Be careful on your walk down to the beach, especially if you are going near sunset, as the dirt trail can be quite steep.
