You have to search far and wide in South Carolina to find a hole in the wall quite like The Whig. Whether you're up for a whole pile of tasty battered and fried fish or want just a sampling and a couple of the best hushpuppies you've ever had, this is the spot to make it happen!

8. Miss Ann's Fried Chicken - Greenwood
When you step into a crowded restaurant and realize you're surrounded mostly by locals you know you're in the right place. Miss Ann's is considered some of the best fried chicken in the whole county - and it's hiding in plain sight next to a gas station on Main Street.

9. Hannibal's Kitchen - Charleston
The soul food experience found inside Hannibals in Charleston will make you forget what the outside even looks like.
