A Terrifying Tour Of This Haunted Jail In South Carolina Is Not For The Weak
If you dare take the tour of South Carolina’s most haunted of buildings, then you should have a very strong resolve. This tour is among the creepiest and scariest things you can do in the Palmetto State. The Old Charleston Jail is not for those with a weak stomach. But it is for curiosity and thrill seekers alike and is destined to be among the top places you’ve ever explored.

The Old Charleston Jail was built in 1802 and was operated until 1939.

In all, it's said that some 14,000 died in this jail, many prisoners making a one-way trip in and never leaving.

Criminals, derelects and suspicious people of all sort were holed up in this fortress of a jail. Even those who weren't guilty of anything were confined to cells here. At one point, after a black man was suspected of planning a slave revolt, it was ordered that all black seamen were to be held here when their ships were in port.

It's even said that during the Civil War, both Confederate and Union prisoners of war were kept here at the jail. Whatever and whomever was held here, many died or were hanged on the property.

In fact, one of the jail's most notorious inmates is credited as being America's first female serial killer. Her ghost, the ghost of Lavinia Fisher, reportedly stalks visitors to the jail. Her apparition has been spotted on more than one occasion.

Based on the thousands and thousands of souls that perished here, it's no wonder this place is so haunted. Even some pirates were held here before being hanged.

One foot inside this haunted structure is all you need to confirm something is off in this building.

From unexplained cold spots, to weird sounds and smells and an occasional outburst, this building is one very creepy place.

Paranormal activity is caught on film so often it's practically an everyday occurrence for someone to capture something on their camera.

One visitor caught this orb in a room of the old jail. In this shot you can see it just north of the middle of this photo.

And in his very next shot...it's gone!

One thing's for sure: a tour of the Old Charleston Jail is not for the faint of heart. Bring your camera and bring your guts. You'll want to have them both along for this incredible experience.
