The Awesome Cash-Only Diner In South Carolina That Deserves A Second Look

Hilton Head Island is one of the most visited places in the Lowcountry of South Carolina, yet most people drive right on by this little gem of a restaurant which is located right on the main road (William Hilton Parkway). But that's about to change - that is, unless you have an affinity for tablecloths, and being catered to at your every whim. You won't find anything fancy at Harold's Diner. This come-as-you-are, no frills establishment has the perfect combination of small town feel and hometown charm. But you better bring cash, because they don't take plastic.

Firstly, what is it with the Lowcountry? Does every restaurant come with its own sprawling old live oak tree? This one towers over the tiny eatery that's within walking distance of the beach.

But that's okay; what it lacks in charm it makes up for in... attitude! (???) Fair warning: there may be an occasional swear word in the signs and decor you see inside this restaurant.

And don't be confused by the OPEN sign. No better way to start a meal than with a chuckle on your way in the door, right?

In true diner fashion, this place is exceptionally cozy. And you need to have an understanding before you head to Harold's, because it's very likely Harold will start in on you the minute you walk in the door. If you sit at the counter, you can be almost guaranteed he's going to lob some snarky remark in your direction. Don't be offended... it's part of the overall Harold's experience.

People love it — and they love Harold, apparently. The restaurant currently boasts a 4.5 rating on TripAdvisor and reviews are overwhelmingly in favor of the tiny eatery.

The menu features traditional diner food, including burgers, hot dogs and sandwiches.
