This Easy Wildflower Hike In South Carolina Will Transport You Into A Sea Of Color
The official start of the spring season is only days away, and we couldn’t be more happy about it. If you’re busy making your bucket list of all the outdoor activities you want to be sure to fit into the upcoming warmer weather days, then be sure to add this easy wildflower hike to the list. This little-known destination will transport you to a sea of color!
This may be the best time of year to visit. The 2.4 mile out and back trail begins at the lower parking lot at the reserve.
You'll pass by a beaver pond filled with lillies, a waterfall and a small cave. But the main attraction is awaiting on the top of the rock.
Many of the plant varieties found on top of Forty Acre Rock are only found within South Carolina in the unique ecosystem found here on the rock.
It's not at all unusual to find a lot of moss in the forest as you make your way to the rock. The trail itself is engaging and rated easy to moderate.
The views are amazing and there is much room to spread out and explore.
Forty Acre Rock Heritage Preserve is located at 2207 Conservancy Rd., Kershaw, SC 29067. If you prefer a shorter hike, then you can park in the upper parking lot for easier access to the top of the rock. It's also worth mentioning that some graffiti exists on top of the rock. Don't let it ruin the adventure.
