South Carolina has been home for AnneMarie since 2001. Her favorite part of the state is Lake Jocassee. An App State alumna, it's always the mountains; the lake bonus makes it heavenly. When not writing about the state, she may be spending time with family, relaxing by the pool, or out somewhere enjoying nature.
Word spreads like wildfire when there’s great food somewhere, and the CrossRoads Country Buffet and Seafood Restaurant has that kind of reputation. Guests drive 45 minutes to over an hour one way to try this place. So the next time you’re looking for a delicious all-you-can-eat buffet in South Carolina to fill some tummies, this is the one.
The restaurant has a very unassuming exterior appearance, but as we all full well know, those are often where you find the best of the best. It’s located at 1680 Neese’s Highway in Orangeburg.
If you’re traveling here from out of town, you’ll take the Burke Road Exit 139 off of Interstate 26.
Look for this sign, which should help you not to miss it as the front of the restaurant does not face the road. It sits perpendicular to Neese’s Highway.
Sometimes there might be a special buffet on a certain night of the week. For one Thursday, USDA ribeye steak and shrimp were featured on the bar from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Not everything shows in the photo, but it included smoked sausage and onions, oven-roasted turkey, fried pork chops, smothered round steak, rutabagas, cornbread dressing and gravy, steamed cabbage, garden peas, squash casserole, fried okra, fried green tomatoes,
Southern fried chicken, fried whitefish, fried fatback with chopped BBQ pork mustard-based hash, rice and gravy, red-skinned mashed potatoes, stewed tomatoes with okra, green butterbeans, string beans, collard greens, corn, sweet potatoes, mac and cheese, bread, salad bar with prepared salads, and a selection of desserts including fruit cobblers and banana pudding.
Everything is delicious, even the vegetables, but there’s something about having a popular dessert buffet that’s like icing on the cake.
